Nadunissi Naaygal (English: Midnight Dogs) is an upcoming Tamil thriller film written and directed by Gautham Menon that stars Sameera Reddy, Deva and Veera Bahu in the lead roles.The film, to be simultaneously released in Telugu as Erra Gulabilu, notably will not feature any kind of film score or music. Produced by Photon Kathaas Productions and R. S. Infotainment. Expected to release on 11 February 2011 but later postponed by a week and now releasing on 18 February 2011.

Gautham Vasudev Menon, along with his producers Kumar, Madan and Venkat, has jointly taken a decision to push the release of 'Nadunisi Naaygal' by a week.

Sal Picinich of Carlstadt, the veteran baker who became an unexpected celebrity through the reality TV series “Cake Boss,” died Sunday. He was 63.The cause was cancer, said his wife, Lucille.

Mr. Picinich, born on the Croatian island of Susak, worked 45 years at Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, where the TLC series is set. “Cake Boss” premiered in April 2009 and follows the adventures of Buddy “The Cake Boss” Valastro and his family and staff as they turn out big, fancy custom cake after big, fancy custom cake. The show’s fourth season began Monday.

Valastro looked up to Mr. Picinich as a “second father,” said the bakery’s publicist, Adam Bourcier. Mr. Picinich had worked under Valastro’s late father, Buddy Sr.

Mr. Picinich stopped appearing on the show at the end of 2009, when he began battling illness, but returned last summer to accept the Employee of the Century Award on the occasion of the bakery’s 100th anniversary.

Lucille Picinich said her husband — “a man of little words” — enjoyed his brief celebrity.
“We’d go to Applegate Farms [in Montclair] and all of a sudden people would say, ‘Hey, there’s Sal!’ ” she said. “We went on a cruise last summer and he was spotted on the Oasis.”

Southern Ontario, Canada, is bracing for a major storm that is expected to dump as much as a foot of snow beginning overnight Monday.

The snowfall will come as a massive low-pressure system moves over the Great Lakes.

Coupled with high winds the storm could produce white-out conditions.

The Canadian Automobile Association is recommending drivers check their vehicles to ensure good working order, and travel with a survival kit that includes blankets, food and candles.

Chelsea have completed the signing of Spain striker Fernando Torres from Liverpool in a deal reported to be worth a British record £50 million.
Torres has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract that puts his earnings on a par with the highest paid players at Stamford Bridge - such as captain John Terry and Frank Lampard.

His £50 million transfer dwarfs the £32.5 million that Manchester City paid for Robinho in the summer of 2008. In fact, only Kaka (£56 million, Milan to Real Madrid, 2009), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (£56.5 million, Inter to Barcelona, 2009) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£80 million, Manchester United to Real Madrid, 2009) have cost more than Torres in the history of the game.

Torres joined Liverpool following a £20 million move from Atletico Madrid in 2007 and set a new record for the most prolific foreign goalscorer ever in a debut season in England, beating Ruud van Nistelrooy's 23 goals for Manchester United.

The 26-year-old scored 65 goals during his three year stay at Anfield and although he helped Liverpool finish second in the Premier League in the 2008-09 season, the club missed out on qualification for the Champions League last term and Torres leaves having failed to win a trophy.

That is something he will be hoping to put right at Stamford Bridge as the reigning Premier League champions look to defend their title and go one better than Chelsea's Champions League final appearance in 2008.

Speaking at Stamford Bridge after finalising the move, Torres, who was also pictured with a Chelsea shirt, said: "I am very happy with my transfer to Chelsea and I am looking forward very much to helping my new team-mates this season and for many years to come. Having played against Chelsea many times since coming to England, and in some very big games I will never forget, I know there are many great players here and I will work hard to win a place in the team. I hope I can score some important goals for the supporters to enjoy this season."

"This is a very significant day for Chelsea, capturing one of the best players in the world with his peak years ahead of him," Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said. "We have long admired the talents of a player who is a proven goalscorer in English football and Fernando's arrival is a sign of our continuing high ambitious. I hope every Chelsea fan is as excited as I am with this news."

Blues chief executive Ron Gourlay added: "Signing a player of the stature of Fernando Torres benefits the club on many levels. Carlo Ancelotti was keen to add his talents to the squad as we continue our quest for three trophies this season, we are delighted we have succeed with that wish, and this signing will undoubtedly aid the club in realising our worldwide potential."

Meanwhile, Liverpool have confirmed the loan signing of Coventry midfielder Conor Thomas, 17, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The nation's number 5 junior college prospect and 4-star safety, Byron Moore, has verbally committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Moore, a 6'1" 205 pound speedster was originally part of Southern Cal's signing class of 2009 and entered Pete Carroll's program as the nation's sixth best defensive back prospect but left USC after the arrival of former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and enrolled at Los Angeles Harbor Community College where he played in 2010.

Moore had numerous offers, including Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Miami.  With former USC coaches, Brennan Carroll (tight ends & National Recruiting Coordinator) and Jethro Franklin (defensive line) on staff at Miami and former teammate Malik Jackson on the Volunteer's roster, the highly-touted defensive back had narrowed his choices to the two tradition-rich programs in recent weeks.

Moore also cited the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time as he trimmed down his offers to the Hurricanes and the Volunteers.

Moore kept the East Coast fans up late, with the official announcement not coming until 11:42 EST when he declared, "I will be attending the University of Tennessee!"

The defensive back becomes the 24th member of Derek Dooley's recruiting class of 2011 and the seventh member to be added to the secondary.

Like many people we've been glued to the news unfolding in Egypt and thinking of what we could do to help people on the ground," read a post on Google's official corporate blog on Monday.

The service, which Google said was developed with engineers from Twitter, allows people to dial a telephone number and leave a voicemail. The voicemail is automatically translated into an audio file message that is sent on Twitter using the identifying tag #egypt, Google said.

Google said in the blog post, titled "Some weekend work that will (hopefully) enable more Egyptians to be heard," that no Internet connection is needed to use the service.

It listed three phone numbers for people to call to use the service.

Internet social networking services like Twitter and Facebook have been important tools of communications for protesters in Egypt who have taken to the streets since last week to demonstrate against the 30-year rule of President Hosni Mubarak.

Internet service has been suspended around the country and phone text messaging has been disabled.

A source familiar with the matter said Google, whose corporate motto is "Don't Be Evil," was not taking sides in the crisis in Egypt, but was simply supporting access to information as it has done with other services such as video website YouTube.

YouTube has been streaming live coverage of Al Jazeera's broadcasts of the events in Egypt.

Dozens of the so-called speak-to-tweet messages were featured on Twitter on Monday. The messages ranged from a few seconds to several minutes and featured people identifying themselves as Egyptians and describing the situations in various parts of the country.

"The government is spreading rumours of fear and of burglary and of violence," said one of the messages from an English speaker. "The only incidence of theft and burglary are done by the police themselves."

He was probably one of the most well-mannered and good-hearted filmmakers one comes across. As he spoke he stressed on how 'the breathtaking resilience of people' is what intrigues and fascinates him the most. He had described Slumdog as a 'small, survival' story.

127 Hours thus stands true to Boyle's style of story and story-telling.

'127 Hours' is based on the real-life, awe-inspiring story of mountain climber Aron Ralston who was trapped under a boulder while canyoneering for five days! How Aron kept himself from losing hope in those most gruelling five days of his life forms the story. James Franco plays Aron Ralston.

Most biographical adaptations begin with a backgrounder on its protagonist. They shed light on the traits if not the deeds that make its hero heroic. Danny Boyle sets aside all of this as he lets his camera do all the talking. No introductions, no sub plots, no narration, no dramatic dialogues.

Boyle makes a film out of a situation, which is a tough job and succeeds at keeping it intense in spite of the casual treatment in which he handles the subject. 'Tension build up' does not happen at the rate in which one would ideally expect but it weirdly works in the film's favour given the nature of the protagonist. Aron himself takes time to come to terms with the fact that his passion had indeed become his death trap!

Franco as Aron is unpretentious and undramatic. They say 'True heroism is remarkably sober' and Franco brings that aspect to life through his portrayal. Though laid-back in the beginning, he spruces up towards the climax. He gives you goosebumps with his depiction of extreme pain and despair. It's in the climax that he truly proves what he is capable of as an actor.

AR Rahman's music is riveting. "If I Rise" is brilliant in particular.

  Will Sachin Tendulkar get Bharat Ratna ?

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is set to receive Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country.

The formal announcement will be made by Tuesday evening after meeting between Finance Minister Pranab Minister and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Sachin Tendulkar will be the youngest recipient of Bharat Ratna. The demands for Bharat Ratna to India’s iconic batsman got louder after he became the first batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs last year.

Tendulkar is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He has almost every record in his book. He is the leading run scorer in Tests and ODIs. He is the only batsman, who scored fifty Test centuries. He has maximum number of ODI hundred (46).

Tendulkar passed 30,000 runs in international cricket on 20 November 2009, and has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award, India's second highest civilian award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting honor. Tendulkar became the first sportsperson and the first personality without an aviation background to be awarded the honorary rank of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force. He won the 2010 Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for cricketer of the year at the ICC awards

According to the sources, actress Waheeda Rehman Shashi Kapoor and renowned musician Khayyam will get the Padma Bhushan awards 2011. Ex-planning panel chief LC Jain will get the Padma Vibhushan

Indian cricketer VVS Laxman, shooter Gagan Narang, wrestler Sushil Kumar, actress Kajol, Tabbu and actor Irfan Khan will be conferred of Padma Shri awards.

However, the name of Bharat Ratna will be discussed in a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee at 4.00 pm on Tuesday.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu are in the race for the country’s highest civilian honour.

Sources said that the Prime Minister Office (PMO) has recommended the name of Indian batting maestro for the Bharat Ratna.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has also favoured Tendulkar’s name for the Bharat Ratna. However, there are some reservations over Sachin’s name as he is too young for the award.

Earlier, BCCI had forwarded Sachin Tendulkar’s name on Monday.

On the Other hand, government has also announced the gallantry awards. 21 armymen will get Shaurya Chakra and five will get Kirti Chakra this year. Major Lass Ram will confer Ashoka Chakra posthumously.

As a result of the partnership with wireless provider, Verizon, Apple has been forced to release two different versions of the iPhone 4 compatible initially with the GSM AT&T network and then latterly with the CDMA network of Verizon. While this doesn’t affect users who are signed to either network in the USA, it becomes an issue when they are traveling out of the States to other countries where the networks may not be compatible with the chipset in their device. For example, AT&T customers traveling to CDMA dominant India may find it rather difficult to get good coverage.

Apple could alleviate this problem by releasing a ‘world iPhone’, employing a hybrid GSM / CDMA chipset. Furthermore, a hybrid chipset could allow consumers to more easily transfer between major USA networks while retaining their handset, should the need arise. And this hybrid device may be exactly what the company is working on.

A recent report on the blog of an Italian hacker named Zibri has suggested that the next generation of iPhone and iPad will utilize Qualcomm as a baseband provider for the devices (via AppleInsider). This means that an upcoming device will be utilizing CDMA networks. The caveat to this report is that the evidence was isolated from the latest version of iTunes and may simply refer to the upcoming Verizon iPhone, which is rumored to use Qualcomm chips to allow compatibility with the CDMA network.

The key issue is that Qualcomm has also been rumored to be working on dual CDMA / GSM chipsets for a while. If Apple are switching to Qualcomm chips (instead of Infineon) for the Verizon iPhone then they may use Qualcomm as the radio provider for the iPhone 5 and iPad 2, resulting in devices that are compatible with most major networks the world over. Engadget apparently also has sources which suggest the same thing, which indicates that evidence for such a design is growing. Combine this with the fact that Qualcomm could produce hybrid chips with compatibility for up to ten different radio frequencies (compared to the current iPhone design which offers five) and you also bring T-Mobile USA into the mix, giving Apple the opportunity to supply the iPhone to almost every network provider in the world.

While this isn’t a new issue or discussion, it’s worth highlighting once again given the appearance of this recent evidence. A world iPhone would be a fantastic step forward and, with the added pressure on networks to drop ridiculous roaming charges, users may finally be able to use their own smartphones anywhere in the world without having to sell their grandmother to pay the phone bill.

Lt Gen P K Rath, who was found guilty in a land scam by a court martial a day earlier, was Saturday handed down a sentence including stripping off of his rank and forfeiture of 15 years of service for pension purposes.

The court martial against Rath, the first serving lieutenant general (Lt Gen) to be found guilty, recommended taking "off the rank and the precedence of appointment" with substantive effect from May 24, 2010. In effect, his promotion in 2008 may now be considered effective from 2010.

The court martial also recommended forfeiture of 15 years of his service for the purpose of pension, besides a severe reprimand.

Rath, the former 33 Corps Commander , was found guilty on three counts in a scam in which a no-objection certificate (NOC) was issued to a private realtor to transfer a 70-acre plot of land adjacent to the Sukna military station in West Bengal's Siliguri district.

Does the announcement by Starbucks Wednesday that customers could now pay for their coffee via smartphone mean the move to electronic payments is finally coming?

We’ve been hearing for years about the rise of a cashless society, one in which coins, bills and even credit cards are obsolete. One day, pulling out a credit card is going to make you look like this blogger’s mom, who continues to pay by check at the grocery store.

But it’s a bit like robot servants and virtual reality: We keep waiting, and the technology is used in other countries, but the day still hasn’t arrived in the U.S.

The Starbucks move, combined with a few other developments by companies like Google Inc., means we’re closer to real-world stores accepting these smartphone payments, even if consumers don’t make the change (no pun intended) right away.

Starbucks tested the program in several cities and found that the smartphone app was the fastest way to pay for many people. More than a third of Starbucks customers use smartphones, the company said, and many of them have their phones out anyway while in line.

The app works with the Starbucks Card system and is available on iPhone and BlackBerry devices. A version for Google’s Android platform will arrive later. When a user makes a Starbucks purchase, the cashier scans a barcode on the phone, and the sale is tied to the customer’s Starbucks Card account, which can be replenished via credit card (or PayPal in some cases).

In fact, Starbucks was so enthused about cellphone payments that it is using its own technology to enable scanning of the barcode that appears on the Starbucks Card app, technology blog Mashable points out. Another option, called “near field communication,” is touted by some as the future of mobile payments, but Starbucks didn’t want to wait for such technology to become widespread.

A new scam that appeals to both our egos and instinct for voyeurism is spreading like wildfire on Facebook.

An app going by various names, including ProfileSpy and Pro Check, claims it will offer insight into how many people have viewed your Facebook profile if you fill out a short survey and grant the app permission to access your information.

The scam has been making its way around the social network via status updates, which include a link to the suspicious service and text that reads, "My total facebook views are: 1245 Find out your total profile views."

From the flurry of status updates that are appearing on Facebook, it appears many are falling for the phony service.

Don't be one of them: Not only will completing the survey fail to shed light on the number of views your profile has actually received, but doing so will reward the scammer, who is likely to earn a commission, and, as All Facebook notes, "the whole exercise exposes your profile to malware and shares your personal information with an entity that will send you more spam in the near future."

Twitter and Twitter users are being targeted by a malicious worm. The worm sends out tweets with a goo.gl shortened URL link directed to a rogue antivirus application. The attack demonstrates once again how URL shortening can be a Pandora's box as users click on links with no clue where they might lead.

A post on Naked Security by Sophos' Graham Cluley describes the threat. "Thousands of Twitter users are finding that their accounts have been tweeting out malicious links without their permission, pointing to a fake anti-virus attack," adding, "A quick search on the popular micro-blogging network finds many tweets from users containing no message other than a goo.gl shortened link (Google's equivalent to bit.ly or tinyurl), which itself points to a URL ending with "m28sx.html".

Follow simple precautions to avoid falling victim to malicious shortened URLsAttacks hiding behind shortened URLs are not new, and are also not technically challenging to execute. By their very nature, URL shortening services like goo.gl and bit.ly take cumbersome, long URLs and condense them down to a nice, short alias that can be used in its place. The concept makes it much easier to send some exceptionally long links, and is a necessity for a site like Twitter which caps messages at 140 characters.

Adam Wosotowsky, principal researcher at McAfee Labs, explains, "Shortened URL sites are not 100 percent malicious, so blocking the domain completely can cause false positives, which is something researchers try and avoid. Goo.gl is an example of a site associated with Google, so blocking the domain may be frowned upon by Google, allowing the spammer to continually abuse the site."

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party late Friday called for Karnataka 'bandh' (shut-down) Saturday against Governor H.R. Bhardwaj permitting prosecution of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa over land scandals.

'We will organise Karnataka bandh tomorrow (Saturday),' party spokesperson S. Prakash told IANS, within hours of Bhardwaj announcing that he had sanctioned filing of criminal cases against Yeddyurappa.

The BJP had announced earlier that it would hold rallies across the state and would meet President Pratibha Patil in New Delhi Jan 24 demanding Bhardwaj's recall, accusing him of being 'biased' against Yeddyurappa and the BJP government in the state.

We still have something in common, for only a moment, of course. It seemed a scene from Dhobi Ghat!

This film is first-rate tribute; it’s visceral, I realise -- both clichés for compliments. Nothing more appropriate comes to mind.

The largest ever rocket to be launched from U.S West coast, the Delta IV Heavy, took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, carrying a national security payload for National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).Delta IV Heavy is 235 feet tall which is about 23 stories tall and is supposed to have produced 2 million pounds of thrust. The launch involved three years of preparation and $100 million in ramp infrastructure upgrade to support the launch.

The launch took place on Jan 20 at 1:10 p.m PST.

The Delta IV Heavy's features a central common booster with additional two strap-on boosters, each fitted with Whitney Rocketdyne-built RS-68 engine with each engine producing 660,000 pounds of thrust. This flight was the fifth for the vehicle in its five year history.

A 9,400-year-old dog skeleton has been found in Texas.

Researchers say they found a bone fragment from the earliest confirmed domesticated dog in the Americas.

University of Maine graduate student Samuel Belknap III found the fragment while analyzing a dried-out piece of waste unearthed in Southern Texas back in the 1970’s.

A DNA analysis confirmed the bone came from a dog and carbon-dating placed the age around 9,400 years.

The bone fragment was found deep inside a pile of human excrement and has a characteristic orange-brown color that would mean it passed through the digestive tract.

"It just so happens this person who lived 9,400 years ago was eating dog," Belknap said.

Dogs may have been bred for comfort, security and food back then, researchers said.

The earliest dogs in North America are believed to have come with the early settlers across the Bering land bridge from Asia to the Americas 10,000 years ago or earlier, researchers say.

There may be older dogs in America, but the bone fragment is one of the few confirmed, Belknap said.
