Torres Joins Chelsea | Torres joins Chelsea in record £50m deal

Torres Joins Chelsea | Torres joins Chelsea in record £50m deal,torres latest news updates,footballer,torres,chelsea,period,Fernando Torres,wiki,2011,01.02.2011

Chelsea have completed the signing of Spain striker Fernando Torres from Liverpool in a deal reported to be worth a British record £50 million.
Torres has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract that puts his earnings on a par with the highest paid players at Stamford Bridge - such as captain John Terry and Frank Lampard.

His £50 million transfer dwarfs the £32.5 million that Manchester City paid for Robinho in the summer of 2008. In fact, only Kaka (£56 million, Milan to Real Madrid, 2009), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (£56.5 million, Inter to Barcelona, 2009) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£80 million, Manchester United to Real Madrid, 2009) have cost more than Torres in the history of the game.

Torres joined Liverpool following a £20 million move from Atletico Madrid in 2007 and set a new record for the most prolific foreign goalscorer ever in a debut season in England, beating Ruud van Nistelrooy's 23 goals for Manchester United.

The 26-year-old scored 65 goals during his three year stay at Anfield and although he helped Liverpool finish second in the Premier League in the 2008-09 season, the club missed out on qualification for the Champions League last term and Torres leaves having failed to win a trophy.

That is something he will be hoping to put right at Stamford Bridge as the reigning Premier League champions look to defend their title and go one better than Chelsea's Champions League final appearance in 2008.

Speaking at Stamford Bridge after finalising the move, Torres, who was also pictured with a Chelsea shirt, said: "I am very happy with my transfer to Chelsea and I am looking forward very much to helping my new team-mates this season and for many years to come. Having played against Chelsea many times since coming to England, and in some very big games I will never forget, I know there are many great players here and I will work hard to win a place in the team. I hope I can score some important goals for the supporters to enjoy this season."

"This is a very significant day for Chelsea, capturing one of the best players in the world with his peak years ahead of him," Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said. "We have long admired the talents of a player who is a proven goalscorer in English football and Fernando's arrival is a sign of our continuing high ambitious. I hope every Chelsea fan is as excited as I am with this news."

Blues chief executive Ron Gourlay added: "Signing a player of the stature of Fernando Torres benefits the club on many levels. Carlo Ancelotti was keen to add his talents to the squad as we continue our quest for three trophies this season, we are delighted we have succeed with that wish, and this signing will undoubtedly aid the club in realising our worldwide potential."

Meanwhile, Liverpool have confirmed the loan signing of Coventry midfielder Conor Thomas, 17, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The nation's number 5 junior college prospect and 4-star safety, Byron Moore, has verbally committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Moore, a 6'1" 205 pound speedster was originally part of Southern Cal's signing class of 2009 and entered Pete Carroll's program as the nation's sixth best defensive back prospect but left USC after the arrival of former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and enrolled at Los Angeles Harbor Community College where he played in 2010.

Moore had numerous offers, including Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Miami.  With former USC coaches, Brennan Carroll (tight ends & National Recruiting Coordinator) and Jethro Franklin (defensive line) on staff at Miami and former teammate Malik Jackson on the Volunteer's roster, the highly-touted defensive back had narrowed his choices to the two tradition-rich programs in recent weeks.

Moore also cited the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time as he trimmed down his offers to the Hurricanes and the Volunteers.

The announcement came on the 11:00 PM broadcast of The All Star Approach and was carried live via the world wide web on blogtalkradio.com.

Moore kept the East Coast fans up late, with the official announcement not coming until 11:42 EST when he declared, "I will be attending the University of Tennessee!"

The defensive back becomes the 24th member of Derek Dooley's recruiting class of 2011 and the seventh member to be added to the secondary.

Based on team rankings at Rivals.com, Tennessee's recruiting class currently ranks 18th with National Signing Day less than 36 hours away on Wednesday, February 2nd.

The formal announcement will be made by Tuesday evening after meeting between Finance Minister Pranab Minister and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

India Vs South Africa 3rd ODI Match | 18th Jan 2011 | Highlights,LiveScore,Live Streaming Video

0 comments
Indian bowlers continuing their previous performance of Wanderers has done fantastic job again in 3rd ODI at Newlands.

South Africa has scored 220/10 in 49.2 overs. Faf du Plessis played an excellent innings of 60-runs in his debut match. He was the leading scorer too.

The 110-runs partnership between Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy (52) made South Africa to recover from early wickets. Zaheer Khan took 3 wickets. Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel picked two and 1 wicket gone to Yusuf Pathan.

Now India has to make 221-runs to win this match. They have to do well and give a good performance. They have not reached the score of 200-runs in the first 2 ODIs, but today, Indian batsmen must perform well. The bowlers have given them a very well platform now.

Toss – India have won the toss and elected to bat

South Africa (Playing XI): Morne van Wyk, Hashim Amla, Colin Ingram, AB de Villiers(w), Jean-Paul Duminy, David Miller, Johan Botha(c), Robin Peterson, Wayne Parnell, Makhaya Ntini, Juan Theron

India (Playing XI): Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravichandran Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel

India Innings

* India lost 1st wicket in 3rd over – 1-18 (Vijay, 2.4 ov)
* W Parnell to M Vijay, OUT! A terrific catch by van Wyk! Full ball, on off and Vijay goes for a big hit down the ground but only skies the ball. van Wyk has to run back and puts in the dive to get his hand to it. First breakthrough for the Proteas!
* India: 50 runs in 5.1 overs (31 balls), Extras 2
* India lost 2nd wicket in 8th over – 2-67 (Kohli, 7.3 ov)
* J Botha to V Kohli, OUT – Bowled! Botha has broken through his defenses and knocked his stumps over. India have lost their second wicket.
* India: 100 runs in 11.6 overs (72 balls), Extras 2
* RG Sharma: 50 off 32 balls (5 x 4, 2 x 6)
* India lost 3rd wicket in 13th over – 3-109 (Sharma, 12.5 ov)
* JP Duminy to R Sharma, OUT! What a catch! He’s picked that on the rope! Wide and full, Sharma looks to hit that for another six over long-on. It looks good until Ntini times a perfect jump and plucks that out of the air. He manages not to tread on the rope with his feet – it was that close!
* India lost 4th wicket in 14th over – 4-110 (Yuvraj Singh, 13.1 ov)
* R Peterson to Y Pathan, OUT! Run out! Mis-communication or no communication! Yuvraj is gone. Wide ball down Pathan’s leg stump, de Villiers doesn’t pick it up, and Yuvraj goes for the single. Pathan isn’t interested and Yuvraj has to sprint back. Fine leg whips the ball to the bowler and he’s well short of his ground.
* India lost 5th wicket in 16th over – 5-136 (Pathan, 15.6 ov)
* J Theron to Y Pathan, OUT! Bowled! Pathan drags this one from just outside off onto his stumps.
* India: 150 runs in 17.5 overs (107 balls), Extras 3
* India lost 6th wicket in 20th over – 6-168 (Raina, 19.6 ov)
* J Theron to S Raina, OUT! Last ball! Miller takes the catch. Looks to hit it on the leg side, he mis-times it completely and the ball goes high in the air and is taken at mid-off.
* Innings Break: India – 168/6 in 20.0 overs (MS Dhoni 10)

South Africa Innings

* South Africa lost 1st wicket in 2nd over – 1-6 (Amla, 1.2 ov)
* A Nehra to H Amla, OUT! Bowled! Amla gone! Looks to play a drive and misses the ball. It cannons into off stump and uproots it. Early strike for India!
* South Africa lost 2nd wicket in 5th over – 2-31 (Ingram, 4.2 ov)
* M Patel to C Ingram, OUT! Wide of off, Ingram slashes at it and the ball flies off the edge to short third man. Praveen Kumar takes a good catch to his right. Two down!
* South Africa: 50 runs in 5.3 overs (33 balls), Extras 6
* MN van Wyk: 50 off 24 balls (4 x 4, 5 x 6)
* 3rd Wicket: 50 runs in 24 balls (MN van Wyk 35, AB de Villiers 14, Ex 2)
* South Africa lost 3rd wicket in 10th over – 3-88 (de Villiers, 9.1 ov)
* Patel to Ingram, OUT, 116.3 kph, the slower one does the trick for Munaf, it was widish outside off, Ingram went for the slash, and the ball looped in the air for PK to take a simple catch at short third man, the lack of pace did him, he was already into the shot but could not get much on it
* South Africa lost 4th wicket in 10th over – 4-89 (Duminy, 9.4 ov)
* Yuvraj Singh to Duminy, OUT, Yuvi has taken out JP! soft dismissal, he just walked across the stumps, looking to work the ball square on the leg side, misses and is hit bang in front of the stumps, the finger goes up, and Yuvraj roars.
* South Africa lost 5th wicket in 11th over – 5-93 (van Wyk, 10.4 ov)
* Kumar to van Wyk, OUT, van Wyk has thrown it away, it was angled in on leg stump, he put the front leg forward and swung it straight to Ashish on the deep square leg boundary, who caught the ball and just stood rooted to the ground, for effect. Huge, huge wicket.
* South Africa: 100 runs in 11.6 overs (72 balls), Extras 8
* South Africa lost 6th wicket in 13th over – 6-108 (Miller, 12.5 ov)
* Pathan to Miller, OUT, YK has struck! it was flat and angled in from round the stumps, he looked to swipe across the line, missed, and that was going to hit leg, I reckon. The umpire thought so and sent Miller on his way, South Africa are in trouble now, Yusuf is pumped up.
* South Africa lost 7th wicket in 15th over – 7-120 (Peterson, 14.4 ov)
* Pathan to Peterson, OUT, Peterson gives Kohli catching practice, it was angled across him, he came forward and lifted straight into Virat’s hands at short extra cover, South Africa are imploding now.
* South Africa lost 8th wicket in 19th over – 8-141 (Parnell, 18.3 ov)
* Ashwin to Parnell, OUT, Ashwin gets one, it was fuller on the leg stump, and Parnell swung it straight down the throat of deep square leg where Yusuf takes it gleefully
* South Africa lost 9th wicket in 20th over – 9-144 (Botha, 19.2 ov)
* Nehra to Botha, OUT, its almost over for South Africa, Botha picks out Rohit on the long on boundary with the lofted shot.

Sourav Ganguly In IPL Season 4 | Ganguly In IPL 2011 Auction - Latest News Updates

0 comments
In what turned out to be one of the major embarrassments in his chequered career, Sourav Ganguly was left red-faced as none of the 10 franchises put his name up in the wish list for the second time after the first round of auctions ended in Bangalore on Sunday. Similarly Chris Gayle, Brian Lara,Sanath Jayasuriya were all rejected during the first round and never came up for a second discussion. Only Mohammed Kaif turned out to be real lucky as he was finally snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for $130,000 after being ignored twice.

The real story of the day was Ganguly. Speculations were rife throughout the day that one of the franchises might just pick him once the unsold players are put up for the second time.

To everyone's horror, among the 28 players who were re-auctioned at the request of the franchises, Ganguly's name didn't figure.

It was Murali Karthik who turned out to be a gainer as he was bought by Sahara Pune Warriors at $400,000.

There is every reason that the most successful Indian captain will feel insulted as he had prolonged his cricketing career only to play in the IPL. With franchises turning their backs on him, it is certainly one of the most ignominous ends for the Prince of Kolkata.

One of the realistic reason could be his base price of $400,000. By the time the re-auctions of the unsold players were held, it became clear that his old team KKR who had a purse of $425,000 won't bid for him. Ditto for Chennai Super Kings who had almost exhausted their purse with only $385,000 remaining.

Everyone was looking forward to Sahara Pune Warriors - a franchise with whom Ganguly has been linked for quite some time. However with three editions already over, even the new teams know how to get their economics right as most of them found it fit to spend the remaining money on uncapped domestic players who would form the core of the team.

Cristiano ronaldo's Girlfriend Irina Shayk Appeared naked | C.Ronaldo The Bad Boy Of Football

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend Irina Shayk is upset with Spanish GQ after nude photos of her were published in the magazine.

The 24-year-old Russian beauty's agents threatened to sue the mag over the pictures, which they claim have been digitally altered.

However, the magazine insists the underwear model happily stripped off — and has threatened legal action against Shayk's agents Elite.

The stunning brunette posed for GQ in Madrid on November 4 and the magazine published 14 sexy photographs and an interview this week.

The front cover shows her smoking a cigarette over the headline: "The most beautiful animal in the world. Do you want to discover Ronaldo's girlfriend naked?"

Inside she appears in a series of photographs in lingerie, and in five pictures she seems to be wearing no knickers.

One shows her outdoors in just a pair of high heels, and two others only wearing knee-length socks.

"She's the victim of photographic retouching and negligence by GQ Spain. It wasn't planned for her to appear naked," the Sun quoted Gael Marie, director of Elite models in Spain, as saying.

Marie said the photos "damaged and harmed the model's image" and added: "It's obvious the headline was designed with the sole aim of selling more copies."

The editor of the magazine Javier Fernandez de Angulo, who was present during the photo-shoot, hit back, saying: "The model took her clothes off completely naturally.

"Maybe she's annoyed because we put on the front cover that she's Ronaldo's girlfriend, and she asked us to avoid that."

Ironically during the interview Shayk says you don't have to be naked to feel sexy.

She said: "I feel very sexy when I'm wearing lingerie.

"You don't have to be naked to feel sexy.

"I think the power of seduction is within every woman, but of course I feel more sexy wearing lingerie," she added.
