Jharkhand is an Indian state. Located in Eastern India it was created from the southern part of Bihar on November 15, 2000. The word “Jharkhand” means “The Land of Forests.” The state covers an area of 28,833 sq miles. Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand. It is an industrial city. Jamshedpur is the largest city of the state. Other major cities and industrial centers in the state are- Dhanbad, Bokaro and Hazaribagh.
On the north of Jharkhand there is Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Chattisgarh to the west, Odisha to the south and West Bengal to the east.
The name "Jharkhand" means "The Land of Forests".
